Israel is carrying out some of its heaviest bombardment of southern Lebanon in weeks during the Eid holiday, with strikes hitting Breqaa, Nabatieh, Meifdoun and areas between Zefta and Deir El Zahrani. Lebanon's Ministry of Health has described the attacks as massacres. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israeli forces are operating deep inside Lebanese territory, where Israel has illegally occupied a strip of land up to ten kilometres wide since 18 April — despite a US-brokered ceasefire that took effect a day earlier and has since been extended until July. Hospitals across the south are overwhelmed, with civilians including children suffering both physical and psychological injuries.
