Eight major Muslim nations have jointly warned Benjamin Netanyahu’s government that Palestinians cannot be removed from Gaza—whether by land, sea or under the label of “voluntary emigration.” Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, Indonesia and Pakistan condemned proposals advanced by Israeli ministers Itamar Ben Gvir and Israel Katz. The governments warned that implementing such plans would violate Palestinian rights, destabilise the region and undermine efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state. Netanyahu has not formally adopted Ben Gvir’s “Disengagement 710” programme. But with Israel approaching an election, eight governments are warning that turning campaign rhetoric into state policy could trigger an irreversible regional confrontation.
