Germany won't impose general sanctions on Israel due to 'special responsibility' towards the country

 

 

 During a German state visit to Ireland, Chancellor Merz said in a press statement that his country will not endorse imposing general sanctions on Israel. The remarks were made after he expressed his "concern" towards the behaviour of settlers in the West Bank, emphasising he does suppport sanctions on goods and products from illegal settlements. Merz remarked that Germany would not impose the general sanctions because the country "bears a special responsibility toward the State of Israel".
