Iran missiles hit Haifa refinery in Israel in major escalation

Iran has struck strategic infrastructure in Haifa, hitting the oil refinery and electricity company, causing power outages and damage. Israel's Energy Minister assured the public there are no petrochemical leaks and repair work is ongoing. The Haifa port is a key military and economic hub, housing Israel's navy, submarines and petrochemical facilities. This marks a significant escalation, as Israel had earlier dismissed the vulnerability of its energy sites. Iranian missiles are now hitting more regularly, with Israel's interception rate publicly dropped to 90 percent. Tehran is using heavier supersonic missiles with cluster warheads that splinter on impact, making them harder to intercept and capable of causing widespread damage even when downed. The strikes come after Israel hit oil depots in Tehran and gas facilities, and Iran warned it would target Gulf energy infrastructure in retaliation. Al Jazeera's Nour Odeh reports from southwest of Ramallah.
