At least 500 buildings in Gaza at risk of collapsing because of Storm Byron

Officials in Gaza say at least 500 buildings, already weakened by Israel’s two-year-long war, are now at risk of collapsing because of a powerful storm. Heavy rain and strong winds have brought down at least a dozen buildings in the Strip so far. The storm has made conditions worse for many families who have already been displaced more than once. Some Palestinians have no choice but to remain in unstable buildings, as ongoing restrictions by Israel continue to prevent access to necessary supplies and alternative shelter. At least 14 have died, and dozens more are missing after the storm hit on Thursday. Authorities say they have received more than 4,300 distress calls since the storm began. Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud has the latest from Gaza City, Palestine. Renald Menard is with Doctors Without Borders and based in Gaza City. He explains how the storm has worsened the already dire situation in the Strip.
