Palestinian farmers in Gaza are returning to their devastated fields despite lacking equipment and seedlings. Vast areas once filled with crops now lie barren after the war wiped out orchards, vegetables and greenhouses. Agriculture previously made up 10 percent of Gaza’s economy, but 80 percent of farmland and 71 percent of the greenhouses are now damaged. Only a small fraction of land remains usable, forcing farmers to start again from almost nothing. Many, like Ahmed Abu Hallima, are replanting as an act of livelihood and resilience after displacement. Each seed represents work, dignity and recovery in a landscape stripped of its foundations. Gaza’s farmers are rebuilding a lifeline the war nearly erased. Al Jazeera’s Ibrahim al-Khalili reports from Gaza City. Bahaa Zakout is the director of External Relations and Fundraising at the Palestinian Agricultural Development Association. He joins us from Deir Al Balah to discuss the latest developments.
